Malaysia, Truly Asia
malaysia was very funny, and destroyed at the same time by a certain 4 year old green eyed monster who wrecked havoc.
malaysia got me thinking as well. what does it mean to "die of old age"? you mean when people are incredibly old, they just die without any real reason even though their body functions were working perfectly well? if that is so, then how can they still die? why?
or would it mean like the old person is so old that his or her body function starts failing and so they die? wouldn't it then mean that they "died of kidney/lung/heart/whatever failure"? or maybe it means to die of an old age-related disease. or maybe because the person is old, their bones are much more brittle and stuff so if they accidently fall or something and hit their head, they are more likely to die. but all these are ways people could die INDIRECTLY due to old age, so it shouldn't be said that they "died of old age", now should it?
well, moving on. my aunt has CHICKENS! oh my gosh, pure country bumpkin to the max. and the most surprising part is that when she shouts out "CHICKEN! COME!" they come! it's so amazing! they are like dogs, seriously, i think they could probably replace their dog already, they even crowe when people or cars pass by the house. and they helped my aunt find a snake in her garden as well. and they are hilarious, i swear, they follow you everywhere you go! they are so funny, i just felt like poking them with sticks. my mum was pretty worried about the chance of bird flu. it's like, no mammy, these people reared those chickens from eggs, i think that if they carried bird flu, the people would have contracted it by now.
malaysia was a big change as well, in the car, my parents complained and complained about lousy road signs. my mum was like "in singapore, they put signs before a turning. in malaysia, they put signs after you turn, they tell you where you are." hahahaha, i was laughing at it and i was like, "how can like that one?" and my mum just plainly replied, "this is Malaysia"
later we went out with part of my extended family for dinner to some place called Asia Cafe. it's basically a really huge hawker centre. a really really huge one. we were standing by one of the tables waiting for the dude to clean it cus it still had the bowls and plates and whatnots left over from the person sitting there previously. just then, the fan blew a plastic bag that was lying on the table into my direction, i reached out my hand to grab it and put it back on the table but i saw it was kinda dirty and quickly took back my hand, the plastic bag landed on the floor and i wanted to pick it up from a clean side, then my cousin said "don't need to pick up, this is Malaysia".
another time, my dad asked some dude for directions, and he gave a blur look and mumbled something. my dad turned to us and told us "he doesn't speak english." i was shocked and all "how can people here not know how to speak english?" and my mum plainly replied again, "this is malaysia".
somehow, "this is malaysia" seems to be the reason for all malaysia's flaws.
This is Malaysia.
indeed it is. Malaysia, Truly Asia.
if this is truly asia, i am truly ashamed.
